As we approach the end of another year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the profound impact that your generosity has had on our community. Your support has allowed the Cancer Support Center to continue providing crucial resources, guidance, and a compassionate community for those affected by cancer. Today, I’d like to share a story with you that embodies the very essence of what your contributions make possible.

Laura Bennett grew up in Tinley Park, surrounded by a loving family. Her father was outgoing, always full of energy and life, while her mother brought a quiet strength to the family. They were a close-knit unit, with Laura cherishing the time spent with her parents, who were always there for her.
In October 2018, Laura’s world was shaken when her mom was diagnosed with liver cancer. Just over a year later, in December 2019, her father suffered a seizure at work, leading to a devastating diagnosis of glioblastoma. The challenges Laura faced during this time were unimaginable, compounded by the anxiety and depression that naturally accompanied the strain of seeing both parents battle this relentless disease.

Amidst this turmoil, Laura’s dad discovered the Cancer Support Center. At first, Laura wasn’t sure what to expect. She thought the Center was only for those diagnosed with cancer, not realizing that it also provided a haven for caregivers and loved ones. But from the moment she walked through our doors, Laura found solace, understanding, and the support she so desperately needed.
Kelly, one of our compassionate counselors, became Laura’s guide through this difficult time. The Center became more than just a resource for Laura—it became a long-term gift that helped her navigate the darkest days of her life. Both of Laura’s parents eventually succumbed to cancer, but the strength and resilience she found here have helped her emerge in a better place mentally than she has been in years.

Today, Laura is an advocate for the Center, frequently recommending our services to others facing similar battles. She credits the Center with helping her achieve a level of peace she never thought possible.
Stories like Laura’s remind us why we do what we do—and why your continued support is so vital.

Please consider making a year-end gift today. Together, we can continue to offer the life-changing support that Laura and so many others have found at the Cancer Support Center.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity. Wishing you and your loved ones a peaceful and healthy holiday season and new year.
